AFL Dream Team Resources

March 16, 2009 by Jesse Penfold

If you are complete newbie (or you have been getting beaten like you are Cameron Cloke in a Carlton scrimmage) then you might not know the strategic basics required to excel at Dream Team – don’t worry we have got that covered – before you even think about playing check out:

The Die Hard Footy Dream Team Manifesto

Once your understand these basics you can use the following resources to start learning the more intricate tactics and analyse players for selection:

Fan Footy – The number one source for all your DT information, straight up data crunching, you will find any fantasy stats you need here, recaps of all the preseason action (and game action once the season starts), as well as insightful podcasts (welcome to the future of radio).

Honestly if you are serious about embarrassing your mates in DT (or Super Coach), this is your first stop.

Dream Team Talk – Your next stop, and my personal favourite DT site going. While not as statistical based as Fan Footy, DTT will still point you in the direction of all the footy nerd info you need to compete. They will keep you updated on the ins the outs and all the latest news that effects DT. But most importantly they will entertain anyone who DT means a little too much to with their weekly videos.

Get the most out of your DT season by getting amongst their crazy community right now.

Big Footy Forum Big Footy is by far the biggest AFL forum on the Internet, and any half way football supporter should be aware of it. Their forum specifically for Dream Team is just as useful, with constant discussions about anything you could imagine relating to DT, be sure to check out the following posts:
- The Golden Rules
- DT Resources

There is plenty of useful stuff in this forum, but rather than blindly following thousands of random posts recommending players from their teams you are better suited to doing your own research from the teams individual boards:

- Big Footy AFL Team Boards

Here you can get the inside information from dedicated fans on who is performing in the preseason training, who make the side, where they will play etc.

AFL Prospectus – A staple for many serious DT players, dare I say The Bible even? Sure if costs you money but it has everything you need. It can be ordered typically each pre-season from late January, provides you with detailed analysis of each player (with the last yrs of DT scores), under age stats for rookies and a lot more.

Fantasy Freako Mailing List – Detailed statistical analysis provided week to week, think AFL Prospectus that is updated after each round.

The Coaches Box – Another podcast run by Monty and Mollyfud, take an entertaining look into the week’s scores and results, as well as received their predictions.

Captains Tips:

Selecting your captain will mean the difference in the Win-Loss column. Several sites offer weekly captain recommendations, including us at Die Hard Footy. Keep an eye out for the weekly captain previews:

- Die Hard Footy Captains (including our brand new weekly score predictions in 2009)
- Calvins Captains

For raw stats hit up:

Footywire.com & Fan Footy Player Search – You will be covered for every team, every player, and every stat for every game.

Advanced tools:

Fantasy Footy Genie – All you can want to know about the predictions side of DT can be found by following that link. Contains player breakevens, price projections for a given score, and score projections for a given price.

DTT Break Even Calculator and New Price Predictor – Use these tools to identify the best time to upgrade your Cash Cows.

We have covered the most important AFL Dream Team resources for us. If you think we are missing some feel free to leave a comment!
