Gary Ablett. Are you kidding me???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? … That is all I am saying.
Now let’s go through game by game – remember it is a split round this week, and the lock in starts on Friday so you need to have your team set for the entire 2 weeks of games (just think about, as your players in the following weekends games, and there is always chance of a training injury next week).
HAWTHORN v WEST COAST
Lance BUDDY Franklin – 88.25 over the last four rounds. Anyone who doesn’t have Gary Ablett right now is driving themselves crazy trying to select a captain and Buddy is one of the reasons with two straight shockers. He only managed 27 against the Eagles last week as well…27!!!!! This weekend you can expect Hawks to get a lot of flow into their forward line, and Glass hasn’t looked like Glass all year with his injury.
Sam Mitchell – 78.5 over the last four rounds. Mitchell was dominant last week with 141, but this was his first game over 100 in 5 weeks. He only managed 38 against West Coast last week, but expect him to have a lot of the ball against the Eagles mid field.
Dean Cox – 104.25 over the last four rounds. Coxy was back last week (pity about the rest of his team) with a 115 after two miserable weeks. Dean had 90 against the Hawks last year, and despite the fact that Eagles will probably get whooped he has shown ability to still post a big DT score.
Andrew Embley – 111.5 over the last four rounds. Embley has lifted DT wise over the last 5 weeks. He didn’t play against the Hawks last year.
Matthew Priddis – 80.5 over the last four rounds. Just not in top form right now, he did have 115 against the Hawks last year though.
Die Hard Captain – Dean Cox is the safe bet.
RICHMOND v CARLTON
Matthew Richardson – 108.25 over the last four rounds. Consistently posting the 90’s Richo still has the ability to post big scores, highlighted by his 145 two weeks back. He tore up North last year with 127.
Marc Murphy – 108 over the last four rounds. In awesome form over the last three rounds posting three captain worthy scores. He only had 58 against Richmond last year, but Murphy has really stepped things up this season.
Die Hard Captain – Matthew Richardson
NORTH MELBOURNE v ST KILDA
Nick Riewoldt – 106.5 over the last four rounds. He posted a gigantic 152 last week leading up the ground and gathering easy marks. Last year he had 85 against North Melbourne.
Die Hard Captain – If you think Riewoldt is going to keep with the game plan of leading up the field he is a great option, otherwise avoid this game.
WESTERN BULLDOGS v PORT ADELAIDE
Robert Murphy – 99.5 over the last four rounds. Not consistently over the 100’s but can go big if you pick the right week, he had 84 against Port last year (remember that Port have packed things in a bit for the season so the Bulldogs might run riot).
Daniel Cross – 92.75 over the last four rounds. Last week was his first game over 100 in 5 weeks, so Cross is still yet to regain the heights of some of his early season scores. He didn’t play against Port last year.
Matthew Boyd – 110.5 over the last four rounds. Coming along big time over the last few round, Boyd destroyed Port last year with 146, expect more of the same this weekend.
Kane Cornes – 94.75 over the last four rounds. Kane has killed me the last two weeks as I put my captain faith in him, will I go with him again?? I don’t think scooter! As the season stretches on there will definitely be concerns for dream teamers about tanking, and Port are well and truly in that boat. My trust for Kane has gone.
Steven Salopek – See above, tanking blah blah blah, better options about.
Chad Cornes – Out with several injuries HAHAHA – I didn’t pick him back up after the first injury – HAHAHA!
Die Hard Captain – Matthew Boyd
MELBOURNE v BRISBANE LIONS
Johnathon Brown – 115 over the last four rounds. Finally dropping below 120 for the first time in 5 weeks (YES 120!), which Die Hard Footy predicted against the defensive Adelaide Crows, expect JB to be back this week against the hapless Dee’s. He pumped them for 128 last year.
Luke Power – 103.75 over the last four rounds. In good nick, he had 115 against the Dee’s last year.
Simon Black – 97 over the last four rounds. This average only dips under the 100 as he was shut out by Adelaide last week. Expect him to be back against Melbourne’s mid field, although he only managed 67 against them last year.
Die Hard Captain – Johno Brown!
FREMANTLE v ESSENDON
Matthew Pavlich – 104.25 over the last four rounds. Pav has been in standard form for his big self, and he loves to demolish the Bombers (as do most forwards of his nature), he had a massive 168 and 113 against them last year. I like this pick.
Die Hard Captain – Pav is the only choice here (and without Ablett in my time ARGGGGGGGHHH, or JB, he is my captain for the weekend).
Note – these games are played the following week due to the split round
ADELAIDE v GEELONG
Gary Ablett – 136.25 over the last four rounds. His lowest score in the last six rounds is 118. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? (Have I said that yet?) If you do not have him as a captain option every week you are disadvantaged, it is that simple.
Joel Corey (92.5 over the last four) v James Bartel (97.75 over the last four) – The battle of the other Cats is being waged and most DTers are torn (if you don’t have Ablett). I say go with Bartel who should raise his game down the stretch of the season, while Corey seems to be struggling to handle the tags at times.
Scott Thompson – 116.5 over the last four rounds. This average despite getting 59 last week tells you what type of form Thomo has been in. He loves playing the Cats too, notching up 98 and 140 last year.
Die Hard Captain – I am just not getting into it, Gary Ablett, no doubt. If you don’t have him, then Scott Thompson is a quality option for this game as well.
SYDNEY v COLLINGWOOD
Dane Swan – 112 over the last four rounds. Even though he is in good form, he only managed78, 85 and 65 against Sydney last year.
Alan Didak – 88.25 over the last four rounds. Big dip in form lately and didn’t do a whole lot against Sydney last year either. Give him a miss.
Heath Shaw – Exploded back last week, but it all hinges on teams tagging him. Not worth the risk, especially against a defensive side like Sydney.
Die Hard Captain – Avoid this game.
There we go – enjoy the stupid concept of the split week!
