AFL Official Season Fixture 2009 - released!
The AFL’s Official Season Fixture for 2009 has been released today! Click here to view it in its entirity, as well as here to view by round, team or venue.
One of the hottest topics in recent seasons, AFL CHIEF operating officer Gillon McLachlan has already come out detailing the considerations in making the final AFL fixture for 2009:
This year we had over 250 constraints or non-preferred outcomes that we put into the system and then we tried to get as many as the outcomes as we could for all of those key stakeholders,” McLachlan said.
“Ultimately, our overriding priority is to maximise attendances and that ultimately is the deciding factor in the majority of decisions. But we try and get as many outcomes as we can for those key stakeholders.
“It’s very difficult, you make one change and it flows through to the rest of the fixture.”
McLachlan said the computer software allowed the AFL to make the considerations later than in past years.
“We’ve been able to wait until the end of the season, when we knew what the final eight was and who the grand finalists were before we started the fixturing process,” he said.
And it appears that for now Hawthorn will be labelled the biggest winner of the draw for 2009, with Carlton and Richmond also doing well:
“Hawthorn is a big winner this year in the fixture in terms of their free exposure,” McLachlan said.
“Carlton and their resurgence and Richmond probably have more exposure in that sense.
“Obviously the teams who were strong last season – Geelong and St Kilda have got very good draws as well as Collingwood.”
