With Buddy Franklin and Brendan Fevola nearing the 100 goal mark for the season there has been a lot of talk with regard to fans running on the ground when the 100th goal is kicked. This has been tradition throughout VFL/AFL history and is usually incident free. The AFL have come out and said that they don’t want to see fans run on the ground and could in fact face fines or eviction if they do so…

FANS plan to defy the threat of fines and evictions as the AFL plans to stop the traditional ground invasion to celebrate 100-goal milestones.
As Hawthorn’s Lance Franklin and Carlton’s Brendan Fevola close in on centuries, the league is in talks with stadium officials over how to prevent spectators running on to the ground.
AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said yesterday the league wanted the time-honoured celebration to stop, fearing fans or players could be hurt.
“We advise everyone to stay off the ground because you can be evicted and also face heavy fines,” Keane said.
“It’s for the safety of both players and supporters. We would say to everyone, stay off the ground.”

I’m not sure how the AFL can stop thousands of people from running on the ground even if they do pack the stadium with security. It would also be quite interesting seeing them evict thousands of people half way through the game. I think the AFL should just embrace it and just make sure the players are looked after as there has never been an issue with this in the past apart from it holding up the game for a short period of time.

One only has to take a look at the video below to get a sneak preview of what the AFL might be in for come this Saturday night at the Dome - good luck stopping this!

Good luck..

I think they will just not worry a bout it when it happens as 100 security guards could not stop a few thousand supporters.

i think they should stop ground invasions in the afl, because a player could get seriously hert or even a spectator.
