AFL Trade Week News From Monday

October 6, 2008 by News

To keep you up to date all through trade week, Die Hard Footy will be bringing to you nightly updates of the latest happenings from AFL trade week.

Monday is traditionally the quietest day for obvious reasons. Clubs simply use the time to meet with each other, saying who is on the table and indicating their interest for opposition players. The big (or should I say rather underwhelming…) news from Monday is as follows:

  • Hawthorn has come out firing, indicating they are very keen to secure the services of Swan Ryan O’Keefe. Reports indicate their first round pick (number 16) would be a key ingredient in the trade. Carlton have already stated they are probably out of the race as they believe a deal wouldn’t get done between them and Sydney.
  • Brent Prismall appears likely to leave Geelong in search of greater opportunity elsewhere.
  • Roo coach Dean Laidley has said his club will entertain offers on most players, naming Hamish McIntosh, Daniel Harris and Corey Jones especially as players who have received interest from rival clubs. Melbourne, Carlton and St Kilda are all interested in McIntosh especially.
  • As we flagged the other day, Brad Green appears set to leave Melbourne.
  • Adelaide has received interest in Brent Reilly and Graeme Johncock but are looking to keep them.
  • Port Adelaide is keen to get Alan Didak but was flatly told by the Pies that he is not available.
  • Further speculation that Sydney will be Bomber Andrew Lovett’s destination.
  • The Bulldogs are disappointed by a lack of interest in Farren Ray.

Monday was mentioned by a few officials as one of the quietest days they can remember - clubs appear unwilling to deal their draft picks so don’t expect huge changes before the AFL draft.

Back tomorrow with further updates!

  1. No surprise to see Ray get no interest. I would only swap a 3rd round draft pick for him…
