AFL Trade Week News From Tuesday

October 7, 2008 by News

Once again another tradeless day at the annual AFL borefest that is called Trade Week. The AFL really need to change this to a rapid fire one day event as the only day that really matters is Friday where the clubs frantically rush around trying to get trades done in the last minutes when they have had the previous four days to get them done.

Not only will it save alot of time for AFL fans it will also save the AFL on food and beverage costs as they won’t need to back in the proverbial mack truck so people like Neil Balme can get their daily serving of sandwiches.

Lets get to the little action that there is to report from Tuesday:

  • Hawthorn are still the front runners in the Ryan O’Keefe sweepstakes. The stumbling block to that trade seems to be the Hawks unwillingness to depart with one of their plethora of key forwards.
  • Sydney have reportedly eased a touch in their chase for Andrew Lovett with Geelong firming as a likely destination for Lovett in a deal that could involve disgruntled Cat Brent Prismall ending up at Windy Hill.
  • Kangaroo Hamish McIntosh has signaled his desire to stay at Arden St after Dean Laidley mentioned that there had been interest in the ruckman.

Back tomorrow with further updates and hopefully some news of something happening, ANYTHING!!!!

  1. Bulldogs are also seriously looking at Hansen with Hall looking likely to stay at the Swans.

You would think Sydney would happily get Boyle and maybe a 2nd round draft pick for O’Keefe. Fair trade imo. O’Keefe however wants around 600, 000 a year which the Hawks cannot afford.

Also find it interesting that Geelong want Lovett after they realise they need some pace (why drop Wojo then?).

Agree that the trade period should be at least two/ three days not five.
