Ben Cousins expected to be reinstated by AFL today!

Plenty of Ben Cousins HOOPLA about at the moment as the entire issue is finally coming to a head:

- Ben Cousins will know by Tuesday (today) if he is to resume one of the great AFL careers, or have his suspension extended by the AFL Commission.

- ST Kilda skipper Nick Riewoldt has opened the door for self-confessed drug addict Ben Cousins to join the Saints if the AFL Commission gives the fallen star the green light to return to the game:

“It would excite anyone if he could get back to the heights he has. He’s a Brownlow medallist and a premiership player,” Riewoldt said on Monday.

“I think we all hope he can get back to that. If he could get back to that then naturally you would rather be playing with him than against him.”

“Until the AFL make their ruling tomorrow it’s really pie in the sky,” he added.

- Clubs major sponsors may post further barriers for Cousins regardless of the AFL’s decision.

- And Caro has added to this concern that the clubs themselves (Brisbane and St Kilda) may not want Ben:

Although neither St Kilda nor the Brisbane Lions have ruled themselves out of drafting the 30-year-old, both clubs remain nervous about the hype and potential distractions surrounding recruiting the controversial Brownlow medallist and the damage Cousins’ documentary could cause to the game.

So what does this clear up? As usual not much, but there is a fair bit of reading about for those who are interested. It appears that Cousins will be reinstated by the AFL, but what isn’t certain is whether that will be good enough for him to play AFL football again in 2009.
