Brownlow Betting Suspended Due to Ablett Injury Rumour

July 18, 2008 by News

Brownlow Medal betting has been suspended amid rumours that Gary Ablett’s ankle injury is worse than first thought.

BETTING on the Brownlow Medal has been suspended amid rumours Gary Ablett is seriously injured. TAB Sportsbet – the country’s biggest betting agency – is not taking any bets on the Brownlow Medal after rumours strengthened that Ablett – the favourite for the medal – could miss four-to-six weeks.

Ablett is currently listed as being out for one week with an ankle injury by the club, but there have been suggestions that he could miss the rest of the season.

The star onballer rolled his ankle during the Cats’ win over Fremantle last weekend, but it was not considered serious at the time.

TAB’s Gary Davies confirmed to the Herald Sun this afternoon that the rumours had grown from a whisper to a roar today, leading to the agency’s decision.

Ablett is currently a huge favourite for the game’s highest individual honour with TAB Sportsbet paying just $2.20 for him to win it. Bulldog Adam Cooney is second favourite at $3.50.

If this turns out to be true and Ablett’s injury is worse than first thought then this will not only throw Brownlow betting into chaos but Geelong’s finals preparation will be severely hindered and don’t forgot the Dream Team players, many of who would have Ablett as Captain.
