Collingwood’s Heath Shaw Charged With Drink Driving After Minor Car Accident
Star Collingwood defender Heath Shaw has been charged with drink driving after he crashed into parked cars last night around 11.30pm. Reports say Shaw allegedly registered a blood alcohol reading of 0.144. The club this morning issued this short statement confirming the incident after the rumour mill was running riot this morning:
‘The Collingwood Football Club can confirm Heath Shaw was in a minor car accident when the car he was driving made contact with a stationary vehicle last night.
‘Heath was not injured, however police later charged him with drink driving.
No comment has been made on a yet-to-be-named senior player who was apparently a passenger at the time of the collision.
Already a furious Eddie McGuire has come out to say Shaw will not be suspended but will accept full responsibility and be fined the maximum amount under club rules - believed to be around $10,000.
This incident is the latest in an ever-growing rap sheet on the Collingwood Football Club - following on from indiscretions by Sharrod Wellingham, Alan Didak, Chad Morrison, now Docker Chris Tarrant and Ben Johnson over the past few years.
Shaw is due to speak to a press conference today at 2pm.
UPDATE: Further investigation has led to the discovery that Alan Didak was the unnamed passenger - get the latest update here
