Daily News - Jonathan Brown sole captain, Sheedy only promoting Tigers, Gameplan to tweak for International Rules etc
With draft week over, the 2009 fixture out, and the draft still around the corner, the AFL has really hit one its slower periods of the year. As a result we are bringing back our daily news round up just to help point you in the direction of the little events that are happening.
JONATHAN Brown will be the sole Brisbane Lions captain for 2009 after the club decided to move away from the multi-captain model of previous seasons.
“It’s a great honour – I don’t know how to put words to it,” Brown said in Brisbane on Monday morning.
…
“I’m the official figurehead now of the playing group, but my philosophy is to try to be the same the whole way through. Your actions are always going to be the thing that will make you a good captain.
Sheedy has denied the rumours that his arrival at Richmond will place pressure on coach Terry Wallace, stating that he will be focused solely on marketing and promotions when he starts at the club.
“It’s hard enough to coach - you don’t want ex-coaches running around behind you,” he said.
“I don’t really want to move into the footy department at all.”
AUSTRALIAN captain Brent Harvey says the Australian team will be tweaking its game plan in the lead-up to next weekend’s second test in the 2008 International Rules Series.
“We haven’t really spoken about it, but I think we’ve got a video Monday night where Mick (Australian coach Mick Malthouse) will go through and address all that sort of stuff,” he said.
“We’ll work on a similar game plan, but I’m sure there’ll be a few changes.
the club is unlikely to make any more changes CARLTON coach Brett Ratten says before Friday’s first list lodgment deadline.
“We have got a list management meeting Tuesday to have a look at our list and work out how many picks we would like to use,” Ratten said.
