DHF Dream Team Captains – Round 11
June 4, 2009 by Jesse Penfold
Approaching the mid point of the home and away season, and jesus is it going fast.
You should have a few upgrades in the bag now, giving you more legit captain options than were on offer at the start of the year. And with many trading GABLETT out with his injury this year, you have to think a little longer and harder (sometimes resulting in coaches ending up with the likes of captain Gibbs (85) last wk – not one of my recommendations). Well the GABLETT is under another injury cloud, however despite missing training the Cats are saying he should play this week.
Round 10 saw a typical array of quality scores from the DHF score predictor:
Gary Ablett (125 scored, 116.8 predicted)
Leigh Montagna (my boyee 146 scored, 112.9 predicted)
Joel Corey (pulled out)
Lenny Hayes (119 scored, 110.8 predicted)
The DHF Score Predictor Captain is at 117
My personal captain average is back up to 119 (Montag doin his thing)
After a big week from Montagna I am back to just 1 point behind in the GABLETT test (he is averaging 120).
Alright, game time for round 11:
Richmond vs Western Bulldogs (Etihad)
| Last 4 | Recent Ave against opp | Recent Ave at Ground | Season Ave | Predicted Score | ||
| Western Bulldogs | ||||||
| Matthew Boyd | 98 | 89 | 97 | 100 | 96.1 | |
| Daniel Cross | 86 | 105 | 87 | 90 | 91.9 | |
| Richmond | ||||||
| Shane Tuck | 103 | 96 | 104 | 93 | 98.8 | |
| Joel Bowden | 77 | 92 | 102 | 93 | 91.0 | |
| Brett Deledio | 100 | 81 | 84 | 93 | 89.4 | |
DHF Tip: Shane Tuck I spose, but as a general rule if the predicted score isn’t above 100 then you avoid avoid avoid.
Noth Melbourne vs St Kilda (Etihad)
| Last 4 | Recent Ave against opp | Recent Ave at Ground | Season Ave | Predicted Score | ||
| North Melbourne | ||||||
| Absolutely fuckin NOTHING! | ||||||
| St Kilda | ||||||
| Leigh Montagna | 129 | 87 | 124 | 117 | 114.2 | |
| Lenny Hayes | 127 | 70 | 129 | 110 | 109.0 | |
| Brendon Goddard | 113 | 84 | 106 | 108 | 102.8 | |
| Nick Riewoldt | 106 | 100 | 104 | 103 | 103.3 |
DHF Tip: Some big boys here for the Saints, but my man Leigh Montagna is head and shoulders above the rest.
Port Adelaide vs Fremantle (AAMI)
| Last 4 | Recent Ave against opp | Recent Ave at Ground | Season Ave | Predicted Score | ||
| Port Adelaide | ||||||
| Kane Cornes | 88 | 120 | 74 | 94 | 94.0 | |
| Fremantle | ||||||
| Matthew Pavlich | 103 | 97 | 94 | 93 | 96.7 | |
DHF Tip: The Pav was doing everything right last week, looking like he was all the way back from his early season slump, that is until the second half struck he turned into the invisible man. The question of consistency continues to make him a big risk.
Brisbane vs Carlton (GABBA)
| Last 4 | Recent Ave against opp | Recent Ave at Ground | Season Ave | Predicted Score | ||
| Brisbane | ||||||
| Struggling to offer much | ||||||
| Carlton | ||||||
| Bryce Gibbs | 108 | 105 | 86 | 109 | 101.9 | |
| Marc Murphy | 114 | 116 | 66 | 105 | 100.3 | |
| Chris Judd | 101 | 104 | 72 | 100 | 94.3 |
DHF Tip: Gibbsy let many people down last week, taking a punt on the fact that the Eagles give up truck loads of DT points. Once again he is looking the goods, although it might be a bit risky taking him on up at the GABBA.
Essendon vs Adelaide (Etithad)
| Last 4 | Recent Ave against opp | Recent Ave at Ground | Season Ave | Predicted Score | ||
| Essendon | ||||||
| Brent Stanton | 88 | 103 | 93 | 97 | 95.3 | |
| Adelaide | ||||||
| Scott Thompson | 94 | 114 | 89 | 94 | 97.7 | |
| Tyson Edwards | 98 | 89 | 69 | 95 | 87.8 |
DHF Tip: Big game for both clubs trying to make their way to finals footy this year. No big stand outs, and with the Crows ability to shut clubs down it would be hard to go with Stanton this week.
Hawthorn vs Sydney (MCG)
| Last 4 | Recent Ave against opp | Recent Ave at Ground | Season Ave | Predicted Score | ||
| Hawthorn | ||||||
| Brad Sewell | 116 | 50 | 126 | 115 | 101.7 | |
| Sam Mitchell | 107 | 62 | 95 | 100 | 91.1 | |
| Sydney | ||||||||
| Screw the Swannies, really is anyone going with Jude Bolton as their el-cap-i-tano? | ||||||||
DHF Tip: Avoid the Swans game..as usual.
West Coast Eagles vs Geelong (Subiaco)
| Last 4 | Recent Ave against opp | Recent Ave at Ground | Season Ave | Predicted Score | ||
| West Coast | ||||||
| Dean Cox | 108 | 99 | 102 | 111 | 105.0 | |
| Geelong | ||||||
| Gary Ablett | 121 | 120 | 112 | 121 | 118.4 | |
| Jimmy Bartel | 108 | 115 | 96 | 116 | 108.8 | |
| Steve Johnson | 124 | 111 | 103 | 111 | 112.3 | |
| Joel Selwood | 119 | 80 | 91 | 104 | 98.5 |
DHF Tip: The big cox has been copping it left and right for his form over the last few weeks, but the best thing about a true DT star is they still manage to get their scores when they aren’t playing their best footy. But this game is all Geelong, with GABLETT the clear standout – consider his ankle injury, but also consider his 147 last time these teams met.
Melbourne vs Collingwood (MCG)
| Last 4 | Recent Ave against opp | Recent Ave at Ground | Season Ave | Predicted Score | ||
| Melbourne | ||||||
| Cale Morton will be a DT star, but still scarey to use as captain right now. | ||||||
| Collingwood | ||||||
| Dane Swan | 122 | 106 | 131 | 118 | 119.2 | |
| Scott Pendlebury | 113 | 63 | 102 | 107 | 96.3 | |
| Leon Davis | 97 | 85 | 97 | 105 | 96.1 | |
DHF Tip: Dane Swan could put the disposals record under pressure this week, cannot go past him, absolute DT GUN!
