DHF Dream Team Captains – Round 12

June 11, 2009 by Jesse Penfold

The nightmare that is the split week is upon us.  This leaves everyone with some serious captain choices, do you take someone in the first week (which confines you to the likes of Carlton, St Kilda and Big Cox) to ensure there are no injury worries, or do you lock in a second round gun from the Cats or the Pies and sweat out next week.  My tip, choose your best player first, and have a vice from this week to cover your basis.

Quickly wrapping up last week, the DHF score predictor had another solid round with 3/4 knocking out the ton (Stevie J’s disgraceful performance has already been discussed in length):

Dane Swan (133 scored, 119.2 predicted)
Gary Ablett (155 scored, 118.4 predicted)
Leigh Montagna (100 scored, 114.2 predicted)
Steve Johnson (62 scored…WTF!!!, 112.3 predicted)

The DHF Score Predictor Captain average is at 118
My personal captain average has dipped to 117

The GABLETT test however is starting to get out of control, with Gaz average up to an amazing 124!

Carlton vs St Kilda (Etihad)

Last 4 Recent Ave against opp Recent Ave at Ground Season Ave Predicted Score
Carlton
Bryce Gibbs 95 95 119 107 104.1
Marc Murphy 105 74 105 104 97.1
Chris Judd 100 63 94 100 89.3
St Kilda
Leigh Montagna 125 76 118 115 108.6
Lenny Hayes 123 93 124 111 112.7
Brednan Goddard 95 85 83 102 91.3
Nick Riewoldt 104 109 102 104 104.8
Nick Dal Santo 89 78 81 102 87.5

*

DHF Thoughts: A legit blockbuster for this Friday nights game, huge challenge for the young Blues to try and establish themselves, and a slight test for St Kilda.  It is also a big game for DT players, Lenny Hayes his firing on all guns at the moment, and he is right at home at Etihad averaging 124 there over his last few matches.  The Saints are just stacked with weapons though, with Goddard looking to sharpen up after last weeks dismal match and Montagna continuing to play as good football as any mid in the comp.  The Blues have the same usual suspects in Murph, Gibbsy and Juddy keying their attack.

Go with Hayes!

Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide (Gold Coast)

Last 4 Recent Ave against opp Recent Ave at Ground Season Ave Predicted Score
Western Bulldogs
Daniel Cross 80 111 88 88 91.8
Matthew Boyd 99 118 99 99 103.8
Daniel Giansiracusa 104 100 89 89 95.5
Port Adelaide
Kane Cornes 86 105 96 96 95.8

*

DHF Thoughts: The Doggies are looking like the team that went to the prelims last year, and the typical run from a wide variety of little guns is still their staple.  Meanwhile one half of the Cornes attack is still gunning for Port, and if you are looking value for money upgrade in the middle you cannot do much better than Kane right now.

You are gambling if your captain is in this game.

Hawthorn vs Brisbane (Aurora)

Last 4 Recent Ave against opp Recent Ave at Ground Season Ave Predicted Score

Brad Sewell 116 88 96 111 102.7
Sam Mitchell 105 107 98 99 102.3
Jordan Lewis 103 88 104 96 0.0
Brisbane
Nah…Rich is a stud but he isn’t a captain yet!

*

DHF Thoughts: Buddy…you make me want to VOMIT!  Ahh go Sewell in this one if you must.

Richmond vs West Coast (Etihad)

Last 4 Recent Ave against opp Recent Ave at Ground Season Ave Predicted Score

Shane Tuck 115 90 111 96 103.0
Joel Bowden 76 99 107 95 94.3

Dean Cox 112 108 109 113 110.5
Matthew Priddis 77 86 126 98 96.8

*

DHF Thoughts: Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui, Nick Naitanui

Did I say I am pumped?  Did I mention Nick Naitanui is debuting?  Do you know the future is upon us?  Did I mention you shouldnt use him as your DT captain unless you are crazy as bat shit?

Go with old faithful Dean Cox for a captain.

Adelaide vs North Melbourne (AAMI)

Last 4 Recent Ave against opp Recent Ave at Ground Season Ave Predicted Score
Adelaide
Tyson Edwards 119 80 88 104 97.7
Scott Thompson 98 95 106 95 98.6
North Melbourne
Absolutely fuckin NOTHING!

*

DHF Thoughts: Tyson Edwards, 166…JESUS!  I’d still skip this game though, I mean he can’t match that score again,  right?  Riiiiiiiiggggghhhhhht??

Essendon vs Melbourne (Etihad)

Last 4 Recent Ave against opp Recent Ave at Ground Season Ave Predicted Score
Essendon
Brent Stanton 82 76 85 99 85.6
Melbourne
Colin Sylvia 123 102 75 93 98.1

*

DHF Thoughts: Sylvia is starting to live up to all the Demon fans expecations over the last few weeks, averaging a monstrous 123 DT points.  I wouldn’t run the risk of a captain in this match, but keep an eye on some of the Demon guns, especially for your team next year.

Sydney vs Collingwood (ANZ)

Last 4 Recent Ave against opp Recent Ave at Ground Season Ave Predicted Score
Sydney
Jude Bolton 109 91 105 103 102.0
Adam Goodes 110 109 109.5 95 105.9
Collingwood
Dane Swan 136 110 98 120 115.9
Scott Pendlebury 119 90 79 110 99.4
Alan Didak 103 83 93 91 92.4

*

DHF Thoughts: When will someone realise that Dane Swan can actually hurt you when he is getting 30+ touches???  How many wins does he need to help orchestrate for the Pies?  When will opposition coaches start help my DT by trying to shut this bloke down cos I don’t have him in my fucking team!  If I see one more moronic coach try and apply the Priddis tactic to Dane Swan I am going to show up the ground and hurl my remote at him, rather than smashing another one against my TV.

So yeah, go with Swan!

Fremantle vs Geelong (Subiaco)

Last 4 Recent Ave against opp Recent Ave at Ground Season Ave Predicted Score
Fremantle
Matthew Pavlich 100 102 108 92 100.6
Geelong
Gary Ablett 132 84 126 124 116.5
Joel Corey 107 121 92 106 106.4
Jimmy Bartel 109 101 101 116 106.8
Steve Johnson 106 104 89 103 100.6
Paul Chapman 90 87 101 107 96.3
Joel Selwood 109 97 89 102 99.3

*

DHF Thoughts: Just a loaded, loaded Cats team, as we have come to expect. After not appearing to get out of 2nd gear against the Eagles you can expect then to come out strong against Freo in their second trip Subiaco in three weeks. And one man in particular loves it out West, that is right, the GABLETT! Averaging 126 at subie, he will also escape his usual tag that has kept him to just 84 points per against Freo recently (note last time they met he had 60 by half time before sitting with an injury).

Go the GABLETT if you can stomach waiting to the last game of the second week in the split round.

DHF Top 4 Captains for Round 12 (brought to you from by the new revolutionary Scoring Predictor):

Gary Ablett 116.5
Dane Swan 115.9
Dean Cox 110.5
Lenny Hayes 112.7
Leigh Montagna 114.2

DHF Captain Round 12 – Gary Ablett
My personal Captain Round 12 – Back to my old faithful Dean Cox (hopefully big NAIT doesn’t take too many point off him) – lock and load!

Who are you going with this week?
