DHF Dream Team Wrap Up – Round 4
April 21, 2009 by Jesse Penfold
The dust has settled on what would be a tantalising round for of Dream Team for many. Why tantalising? Well let’s checkout highs and lows of the roller coaster ride that was Round 4 of Dream Team action:
- The number of high scores from many of the most popular players
Ablett had a record equalling night in terms of possessions en route to a classic 155 point performance on Saturday night leaving many people bypassing him as captain feeling sick, and those who bypassed him from their team all together just feeling stupid.
Throw in the likely sorts of Tark (131), Dalziell (123), Gibbs (103), Cornes (129), Goddard (104), Cox (119), Harvey (131), Bowden (155), Richo (125), Selwood (104) and Higgo (116), the foundations are there for a lot of people to pump out well past the 2,000 mark in round 4. That said, on the other hand…
- The number of busts by many of the most popular players
And this is where the tantalising begins. When you know you have wasted top notch scores from several of your big names mentioned above. For those battling the likes of Pav (72), Lids (76), Gian (51), Haselby (69), Skipworth (54), Tuck’s injury (bringing in Beams nightmarish 46), Hille (58), Hill (50), Rich (64), Houli (43) you are left with a bitter sweet taste. On one hand you are happy you were able to eek out a decent score with so many failures, while on the other you know you missed a big opportunity to surge up the world rankings.
- The people who are left kicking themselves for not having Ablett as captain this week
Myself included on this one, GOD DAMMIT!!
Now there are big scores posted each week by someone, but typically unless you are playing the person who plucks out David Wirapunda for their weekly captain to bust a big 153 than it doesn’t have too much effect. When Ablett does it though, the ramifications felt around the DT world for all the unlucky suckers who were coerced by Ablett’s poor record against the Crows, and the “expert” recommendations around the league tipping against him (yes including me). With a 300+ starting point from your captain you can expect a number of scores over the 2000 point mark this week.
- The thank fuck I didn’t panic trade him because he finally showed up
Brent “Boomer” Harvey. On many peoples trading blocks last week, Harvs was starting to push into the territory of breaking that no sideways trade rule with his barrage of 60 point performances to start the season. Coaches can now exhale a tad as Harvs finally lived up to his potential, showing why he was a lock for so many coaches in their frw lines this weekend scorching the Bombers to the tune of 131 points.
Someone better check Boomers personal DT and make sure he didn’t bring himself in this week. Welcome to the show, the season started a month ago.
- The debut that has many DT’ers licking their chops at a possible future downgrade trade
Jaxson Barham. Where in the hell did that come from? 122 of the best, and we aren’t talking cheap chip it around touches that Ziebell racked up either (not that there is anything wrong with that!). This kid was an excitement machine, chasing down Lions all night to the tune of 9 tackles. The Pies just churn out quality DT youngsters year after year, with Wellingham doing his job last year, then Beams, now Barham and the ever present Sidebottom still waiting in the wings.

I have had Ablett captain for two weeks, first time he got 90 odd and then this week with the 150+
You forgot the biggest BUST (or RUST) of them all – the orange Roughead!!!
I was one of those suckers that listened to the DHF articles and the recent form and de selected Ablett as CAPT and went with Bartel (which still wasn’t bad) i am now kicking myself for doing that.
Lliam – I suggest following my Captains article each week, which simply reads … Get Gazza!
