Hamish Hartlett - 2008 AFL Draftee Profile
Hamish Hartlett is the darling of South Australia right now, and it must have the Crows licking their chops with a number of their veterans in the middle begin to age. It wouldn’t bother Hamish to be suiting up in the Adelaide guernsey next year either, unfortunately he is far more likely to be taken by cross town rivals Port Adelaide, or possibly Carlton whom his brother plays for.
Height: 182cm
Weight: 74kg
Position: Midfield
Club: Port Magpies/Pooraka
Expected Club: Port Adelaide
Favourite Club: Adelaide Crows
Brother Plays For: Carlton Blues
A medium sized midfielder, many have him as one of the top 5 talents in the draft. He possesses meticulous skills, with clean hands and superb kicking, and even more notably an amazing ability to read the game for his age. These attributes saw him turn it on in the second half of the Under 18 Carnival and nab an All-Australian selection while playing for Edwardstown FC.
While he appears to be a bit under-sized and some have concerns whether he will be up to the senior level next year it should be noted that Hartlett played senior level in the SANFL last season and handled himself quite nicely. His burst of pace is deceptively quick, and should bring more to a club in his first year than some of the other top rated mid-fielders (for example Yarren) - if not just for his body, but also the knowledge he has gained from his brother.
What do you make of Hartlett? Will he go as high as first thought or could he be the slider of this year’s draft? Let us know below!
