Jack Watts - 2008 AFL Draftee Profile
Jack Watts is a key position player from the Sandringham Dragons who has been widely tipped to be heading to Melbourne as the No.1 pick in this years AFL National Draft. He is battling it out with two Western Australians, Nick Naitanui and Daniel Rich for that honour. However, Melbourne’s need for a key forward means Watts looks almost certain to be the top pick.
Height:196cm
Weight: 85kg
Position: Key Forward
Team: Sandringham Dragons
Number of beers it will take him to forget about being drafted by Melbourne: At least 20
Who we think he may turn out like: Nick Riewoldt
Who we hope he won’t turn out like: Fergus Watts
Jack represented Vic Metro in the Division One Under 18 Carnival winning the Larke Medal for the best player at the carnival. He has good speed and moves well for a key position player. He is a very strong mark both in a contested situation and on the lead. He also has good skills by foot and is very accurate in front of goal.
Watts has very good football smarts which means he is generally in the right positions and can read the play well. He kicked a goal after the siren from 50m to win a game for Sandy during the season so you know he can perform when the pressure is on.
He performed very well at the recent AFL Draft Camp finishing 2nd overall in all the sprint tests including a 2.82 seconds for the 20m sprint. He was also 2nd overall in the agility tests giving more evidence to how good a mover he is.

I think Watts will be good for Melbourne as they do need a KP after Neitz etc.
Rich would fit along nicely with Morton and their young midfielders and Nats will be an amazing marketing player which Melbourne need but he runs more of a risk imo
