Jack Ziebell - 2008 AFL Draftee Profile
Jack Ziebell is a versatile player from the Murray Bushrangers who is expected to be a top 10 pick in this year’s National Draft. He has shown at Under 18 level that he can play in all areas of the ground but is predominately a running half back that can work into the midfield.
Height: 188cm
Weight: 84kg
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Team: Murray Bushrangers
Who we think he may turn out like: Luke Hodge - he has a lot to do to reach the level of Hodge, but he’s in a similar mould
Who we hope he won’t turn out like: The last notable Z in the AFL – Ty Zantuck
Over/Under on the different pronunciations on his surname: Tony Shaw could crack 5 or 6 in the one game…
Whilst only listed at 188cm Ziebell can play a lot taller than his height suggests. He is a very powerful player who can take a very strong mark. His hardness at the contest is another feature of his game and you will rarely see him take a backward step. He has a long penetrating kick on both sides of his body and is very effective when shooting for goal.
When put in to the midfield his clearance work is pretty good and he is very adapt at winning his own ball.
The one area of Ziebell’s game that has been questioned is his pace. He has good pace off the spot for a short burst but doesn’t really have the sustained pace to break the lines at the top level.
