Latest Trade News - Seaby, Power, Cousins, Lovett, Warnock
One of the more entertaining weeks of the AFL season is fast approaching - Trade Week!
Kicking off next Monday, teams will be trying to pull the wool over each other’s eyes while still maintaining they are looking for ‘win/win’ deals … well everyone except notorious trade mongrels Collingwood.
As with every year, rumours are rife - there’s the well reported ones like Ryan O’Keefe wanting to return to Melbourne, but there’s also a ton of other ones you’ll only ever read in unmoderated forums and forwarded emails. And that doesn’t even include the ton you’ll hear at the pub from someone who’s ‘uncle is in the know’…
So with a huge warning to ‘not believe everything you read’, here’s a wrap of some of the best rumours doing the rounds - some you may have heard of, and some you’ll never hear of ever again:
Mark Seaby has requested to be traded from the West Coast Eagles. Early reports suggest Richmond may be willing to offer up a 2nd round pick, which the Eagles would probably be very happy to take considering Seaby’s relatively poor season.
Does this mean the Eagles have had their mind made up for them and will take Nicholas Naitanui at pick 2 over Daniel Rich?
Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams has thrown up the possibility of moving on the Power’s top 2 draft picks - 4 and 22 - if they come across an offer to their liking during trade week. Talks also persist that young midfielder Adam Thomson has been linked to potential trade deals.
Pick 4 would definitely be an enticing carrot for Daniel Kerr, although it does seem Kerr would much prefer to be in Melbourne if he were to leave the Eagles. Pick 4 for Didak - maybe too much to give? Also, it seems Didak will be staying put at the Pies, but you never know…
Bookies have Ben Cousins a $1.25 favourite to be at Collingwood next year. To put that in perspective, they had Michael Voss at $1.50 to become Lions coach.
Andrew Lovett - reports that while the Swans are very keen to acquire him, he’s less than keen to journey to the Harbour city.
Carlton have offered Pick 24 for Fremantle’s Robert Warnock - interesting that he can be worth 400k a year, yet only worth giving up a 2nd round pick for…
Nathan Krakouer is reportedly homesick and has been linked to both Freo and the Eagles.
Brad Green - linked to the Blues. Who isn’t? Depending on who you listen to, Green is either very close to re-signing with the Demons, or the two are poles apart in contract talks. Expect to hear more soon.
Everyone’s favourite trade rumour has resurfaced once again - Carlton’s Bret Thornton has been linked to a move to Hawthorn. Yep, again.
