Mark Williams Offered a 2 Year Extension at Port Adelaide
June 30, 2009 by Stewart Brown
Current Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams has been offered a new 2 year extension at the Power.
MARK Williams will continue as coach of Port Adelaide after a contract extension is confirmed this morning, AdelaideNow reports. Williams was told of his extended, two-year tenure at Alberton - where he has been senior coach since 1999 - after a marathon meeting of the Power board, according to reports on AdelaideNow.
It is understood senior members of the club met Williams shortly after 9.30pm last night to tell the 2004 AFL premiership coach he had won the board’s vote at a meeting that began at noon and ended at 8.52pm.
Williams had been celebrating the birthday of his wife, Pauline, while the board met to settle his future as an AFL coach.
There had been speculation all season that this would be Williams last season at Port Adelaide but it appears though the board are happy for him to continue. It has been reported that Williams will be expected to take a significant pay cut.
Do you think this is good for both partys? Were you suprised that Williams was offered the extension? Leave us with your thoughts.
