Mitch Robinson – 2008 AFL Draftee Profile

November 10, 2008 by Stewart Brown

Mitch Robinson is a tall and skinny midfielder who is among the leading Tasmanian candidates in this year’s National Draft. He has made massive improvements in the past 18 months which culminated in him winning the Harrison Medal for the best player in Division Two at the National Under 18 Championships.

Height: 188cm
Weight: 78kg
Position: Midfielder
Club: Lauderdale/Tassie Devils (VFL)

Who we think he may turn out like: Scott Pendlebury
Who we hope he doesn’t turn out like: Daniel McAlister
How long before a commentator makes a bad Tassie joke? Sadly it will probably be his first game

Robinson’s huge Under 18 Championship has propelled him up the draft boards to the point where he looks like being a first round pick. There has never been any knocks on his outside play as he has very good pace, is a lovely long right foot kick and has never had any difficulties in finding the footy. The area that he has really improved in has been his inside play and attack on the ball which has now made him a big threat around the clearances. As he is a nice size and quite athletic he also has the ability to take a nice mark.

Robinson looks like he will be able to make the step up to AFL level and it will just be a matter of improving his skills on the left side of his body and working hard to make sure he has the tank to be a midfielder at the elite level.

Robinson has the added advantage that he has played quite a few games at VFL level for Tasmania so he has that experience of playing at a senior level against hard and experienced bodies.

Do you think Mitch Robinson will be the first Tasmanian drafted? Where do you think he will end up? Leave us with your thoughts.
