Nick Suban - 2008 AFL Draftee Profile
Nick Suban is a diminutive figure from North Ballarat who has primarily played across the half back line but has also been used in the midfield during his Under 18 career.
Height: 179cm
Weight: 82kg
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Club: North Ballarat
Who we think he may turn out like: Brent Guerra
Over/Under on 2009 AFL Games: 8.5
Suban is one of the toughest and strongest small men in the draft who is a ready made AFL footballer. He never shirks a contest and is always willing to put his head over the ball. He also has the ability to win a lot of the footy when he goes into the midfield. Suban has a thumping left foot kick but also has nice skills on the other side of his body. He is prone to blazing away a bit when he gets the ball instead of pinpointing a team mate down field. The defensive aspect of his game is very good and can generally be relied on when given a close marking job.
He has played in the last two Under 18 Championships, performing well in both of them. This included doing a great job on Western Australian livewire Chris Yarran this year.
The one concern for recruiters about Suban is that there doesn’t look to be too much upside about him and has probably reached his full potential. He also lacks the pace of a lot of other players his size, something that will hurt him at the top level.
Do you think Nick Suban can make it at AFL level? Where do you think he will end up? Leave us with your thoughts.

Sounds promising if your after a hard nut defender. Some of the softer teams like Melbourne, St Kilda, Essendon could do with a hard body like him…
