Phil Davis – 2008 AFL Draftee Profile
November 26, 2008 by Stewart Brown
Every year there is that player who hasn’t played a huge amount of football, has a background in other sports and is spruiked as a potential first round pick. Ladies and gentleman I bring you Phil Davis.
Height: 196cm
Weight: 85kg
Position: Key Defender/Key Forward
Club: North Adelaide
Who we think he may turn out like: Adam Hunter
Who we hope he doesn’t turn out like: Luke Livingston
The majority of Davis’s football career has been at school level. His 2008 season at North Adelaide in the SANFL was ruined by a shoulder injury meaning he was only able to play four games (in the Under 19s and Reserves).
Davis attacks the footy with ferocity and is a very strong mark. He has a rugby background which has helped him become a strong and aggressive tackler. Davis also brings some versatility to the table having played both back and forward at various stages of his junior career.
When Davis plays in the forward line he is an accurate set shot for goal and is a strong contested mark. He has very good endurance for a key position player so he can run his opponent around and get up the ground when playing forward.
Whilst there is a lot of upside to Phil Davis he does look to be a risky pick as he has not played a lot of football in the past 12 months so you can’t be too certain about how he will perform at the top level.
Expect one of the better sides to pick him up as they have the list to store him on for a period of time whilst they develop him into a league footballer.
What are your thoughts on Phil Davis and where he may end up? Do you think he is worth a first round pick? Leave us with your thoughts.

I doubt he will go 1st round, probably more a 2nd or 3rd and im sure Adelaide are looking at him as they have said they want a few KP players in this draft (and they prefer SA boys).
