Robert Harvey to Retire at Seasons End
August 6, 2008 by News
Champion St. Kilda midfielder Robert Harvey is set to retire at the end of the 2008 season. A press conference has been called for this morning…….
SAINTS veteran Robert Harvey is set to quit at the end of the year.
The two-time Brownlow medallist is due to appear at a press conference this morning where it is expected he will announce his retirement.
Harvey extended his glittering career into this season believing that the Saints were a genuine Premiership chance.
He is expected to announce that he will play out the season - which is likely to include a cut-throat elimination final.
Harvey has been a champion in every sense of the word and it is quite ironic that he announces that he will hang up the boots in the week that all the off field drama at Collingwood has been the main talking point. He is into his 20th season of VFL/AFL football and currently stands on 376 games. He has won 2 Brownlow Medals but has yet to taste the ultimate team success of a Premiership.
Where do you rate Robert Harvey with the other greats of the game? Will we ever see another player as durable as him? Leave us with your thoughts.

While R Harvey is a great player and a champion of the game, I think its about time ST Kilda get rid of some of the older, always injured players especially if they want to go forward.
Robert Harvey is a champion. He has always been the heart and soul of the club and it will be sad to see him go. I believe he still has the fitness and ability to play another season. Please Saints lets go all the way for this legend and send him out on the best possible note….
Fairwell to a complete champion of the game. At his best he was a great of the game, anda good bloke as well.
Well done Rob Harvey
True Champion!!!!
