Sam Newman’s Latest Footy Show Comments on Paula Wriedt - Footage
Sam Newman is in trouble … yet again.
I’m sure you’ve probably heard the public backlash to his comments last night on The Footy Show after a segment on Tasmania’s AFL push involving Tasmanian Minister for Economic Development and Tourism Paula Wriedt.
Make up your own mind … we have the footage for you below:
Personally I love Sam on The Footy Show, and obviously he really is the key to the show. His time looks to be numbered however, as any slip up is incredibly magnified, rightly or wrongly. In this case … even by his own panel.
Is this the final straw for Sam? Have the 2 blokes either side (Brayshaw and Hutchison) sealed his fate by not letting it drop? I’m sure Hutchy would hate to see Sam go…

Maybe the Two Face post should have been on you and not Brendan Fevola Kain … I’ve heard plenty worse from you during a night on the circuit…
Sam Newman > Andy Maher
I am not a fan of Sam Newman’s, nor of The Footy Show although I am a die-hard foory fanatic and watch the show occassionally for the game previews and teams. I was watching last night through what was another badly rehearsed, clumsy episode which again featured Sam Newman at his misogynist best. I have no dount in my mind that Sam did intend to say exactly what he said, in fact if I remeber correctly he tried to phrase it a number of times to emphasise his double entendre. It was clumsy, derogatory and base locker room humour which has no place on national television.
James Brayshaw’s and Hutcho’s immediate responses indicated that they too thought what Sam had said was totally inappropriate and they were closest to the source.
The show’s producer’s must seriously now consider what he brings to the show -again I agree with Kain’s comments that his jokes are old, played out and tiresome. I think it is time he was put out to pasture with Heather the heifer.
The Footy Show should be totally re-vamped over the off season and re-launched next year, minus Sam and the numerous tired segments he oversees. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to see the odd female panellist either -Tiffany Cherry springs to mind. At least then Sam could enjoy watching it from his couch at home.
SPAM NEWMAN: This is just another example of “boys will be boys”. So what if footballers treat women badly, rape the occasional woman, speak about a woman politician as if she is nothing more than a “blue dress” for his masturbation - who does it really hurt anyway. After all - he is just being “one of the boys” - and we know “boys will be boys”.
Sam is just setting the benchmark for another generation of young men in the typical way that footballers “respect and honour” women. At least this is what his continuing support by the network seems to indicate. The audience had a laugh - sounds like he is just giving the fans what they want.
His sponsors will either continue to support his “offbeat”, impotent sense of humour or they will decide that he is not funny, he has soured and cannot tell the difference between what would be “bad taste at any time” and good, acceptable, comic humour that is fit for television. Spam Newman - love him or hate him - “boys will be boys”.
Boys will be boys, fair enough. But theres a time and a place. That time and place isnt on national TV. I believe he meant what he said, and the only reason he tried explaining himself (pretty badly) was because a couple of the other panelists called him out on it.
Generally I think the guy is pretty funny, you just have to take his comments with a grain of salt.
He meant what he said, and then tried to weasel out of it. The attempted weaseling is the problem — that shows he hasn’t got the integrity of even a gonads-for-brains teenager. And what he was trying to weasel out of was the revelation he’d made about his sex life. And now Paula Wriedt, the silly woman, has got the spotlight turned onto herself instead of letting it stay on Sam so that we could watch him shrivel in embarrassment.
The attempted “weaseling” (and I emphasise the term) Was exactly that. He may try to fool himself that he “didn’t mean it that way” but notice Newman was the one getting defensive with Brayshaw and he was also the one who wouldn’t let it drop. The emphasis he put on the sentence the second time was even the same!! Grow up Sam: it’s TV … not your living roon or the pub with your mates and you’re far too old to be a lad! Sam you’re just a weasel.
And to the Hemgor’s comment. Looks like Wreidt’s spotlight was nothing to do with this subject: just a horrible co-incidence and she must have been under a lot of pressure if she did attempt suicide. In fact her potential blackmailer is also a weasel!@
Me and my family are no fans of Sam Newman, but we all thinks this was a legit slip. It was hilarious, however, to watch his reaction when he realised what he’d just said… 90 seconds of Sam Newman having Brown Trousers Time on live TV as he unsuccessfully tried to get his words out in the right order and pleaded for his television life.
hi sam your the best one on the footy show with out you the footy shows shit tell that defensive pain in the ass brayshaw to worrie about the kangsroo not you he needs to lighter up the his not good for the show not you.You make it funny with out you that show unsuccessfully and stuffed take care sam and keep kicking ass.

Being a guest panelist on diehardfooty.com, and likened by my peers to be another Ron Flatter ALA sport 927 journalist i was shocked, angry and mystified at the comments made by Sam last night on the footy show. I turned the tv off after the show and sat stoney faced for a good few minutes running over the show and how it has been over going over the last year. It left a hollow feeling in my gut that this once funny show has been left to use jokes over and over again ad nauseum. Does anyone care about the Chief jokes. It was funny once. Does anyonce still care that after 10 years Sam can’t find his pieces of paper. I for one am switching off and will petition to get before the game on southern cross. I would like to write an article but i have forgot my password!
