Should You Really Be Desperate To Trade Dean Cox Immediately?
July 15, 2009 by Tristan Heffernan
DT Demi-god Dean Cox looks like he is goneski for 2009, which is obviously bad news for the 98,247 teams out there who have him in the Ruck - a whopping 34% of teams. Anywhere you read on the net, whether it is Fantasy Freako, or the regular expert on your local Dream Team forum, you’ll be bombarded with the message ‘Trade Dean Cox Immediately!!!!!’
But is it that simple?
Obviously if you are in the mix fighting it out for the car for winning the whole comp, you’re going to be moving him on. If you’re still in the Eliminator, you’re going to be moving him on. If you’ve had a stinker of a year and you’re under the pump to make the finals in your league, you’re going to move him on.
But what if you only have a couple of trades left? What if your league is populated with AWOL teams, or your spot in the top 4 is pretty much sewn up? I don’t think it is wise to pull the trigger just yet.
Here’s my position - I’m sitting 3rd in my league, but on the same points as top and very close on %. I’ve only got 2 trades left in the locker which I’m looking to save until finals time. And the bottom half of my league is extremely weak (read: I don’t think they’re playing any more, poor form…) and I have a number of matchups with them to see out the year - I’ll kill them even carrying a Cox donut.
And my overall rank is mid 2,000s - not bad, but I ain’t snagging no Toyota, that’s for sure. Eliminator - pfft, no final 64 run this year.
So obviously I’m going to burn a trade on Cox for the finals. But the absence of big Sandi this week has me spooked. I contemplated the Cox to Sandi trade a couple of weeks back, and it’s made me realise what a shithouse position I’ll be in if I trade Cox now and my new ruck does a knee and is gone for the season … I’ll have to spend that last trade!
I’m sure there’s more than a few of you out there in a similar position. So here’s your alternative solution:
Keep Dean Cox. His price is locked in at 418k - that will be more than enough to get any ruck you want for finals. And by not trading now, you’re not risking your new ruck getting injured before finals time.
Then when finals hit, you’ll have a better idea on who’s tanking, who’s in injury trouble (Sandi might be put away as well), and be ready to pick the ruckman to take you to finals glory.
Do you still have Dean Cox? Has this changed your mind or are you trading him straight away? Let us know with a comment

Great advice, I think I will do the same!
Yeh im umming and ahhing over the same thing myself! My problem is that I dont have any ruckmen on the bench getting a game so I may be playing with 21 each week!
Yeah well that’s the thing … you might be able to get away with playing 21 til Finals? Of course if you have problems at other positions as well, you’re really in strife
I have Tippett and Mumford as rucks and reserve rucks as D Cox and T Goldstein. does not look good. Now I know why my ruck score is so abysmal and now I know why I should have saved some trades till later.
Yeh think i will have to trade Cox this week, im playing my wife in my league and I cannot afford to have only 21 players and let her bet me. House Hold pride is on the line!!
