The Terry Wallace Is He/Isn’t He Debacle

May 19, 2009 by Tristan Heffernan

It appears Terry Wallace is safe in his role as Head Coach at Tigerland - despite a tumultuous morning of reports otherwise.

Here’s the coverage we provided this morning as the news was unfolding:

In breaking news, Richmond Coach Terry Wallace is believed to have walked out on the club following a series of meetings yesterday and last night.

The playing group were reportedly unhappy with Plough’s post match critique after their match against Port Adelaide on Sunday, and it appears Wallace has walked from his position, claiming he has lost the faith of the players.

Wallace did not show up to Punt Road as scheduled this morning.

UPDATED

Confirmation of Wallace’s exit has come through - along with revelations that assistant coach Brian ‘Choco’ Royal has also been given his marching orders. These were later proven to be rumour however, as Royal has apparently taken to the training track this morning.

Whether Wallace walked or was sacked is still unknown.

Richmond are expected to make an official announcement regarding their coaching positions today at 1pm.

FURTHER UPDATE

News from the Herald Sun:

TERRY Wallace’s future at Punt Rd is up in the air with conflicting reports coming from Richmond

It is believed the senior players had a robust discussion with Tigers president Gary March this morning, confiming that Wallace has their full support.

Tigers captain Chris Newman and football manager Craig Cameron will have a press conference at midday today.

Further reports are now coming out that Wallace will be staying at Punt Road! Amazing! We’ll find out shortly at the press conference what the true story is!

So Wallace survives to fight another day - so what is the big message out of this morning’s events? Is it crisis at Tigerland, or is it simply rumours running wild?
