Tom Lynch – 2008 AFL Draftee Profile
November 27, 2008 by Stewart Brown
Tom Lynch is a hard working key position player who can play both in defence and up forward. He should become a very handy key position player for whatever team picks him up.
Height: 192cm
Weight: 85kg
Position: Key Forward/Defender
Club: Sandringham Dragons
Who we think he may turn out like: Jarrad Waite
Who we hope he doesn’t turn out like: James Gwilt
Lynch has very good footy smarts which enables him to read the play well particularly when he is playing down back and he will generally run to the right spots when he is providing a target up forward.
Lynch can take a strong mark and has good pace for a key position player which gives him an advantage when playing up forward as he can usually get some distance between him and his opponent when on the lead. His work rate is something that would impress all clubs and is always seen putting plenty of pressure on opposing teams trying to bring the ball out of defence.
His foot skills are acceptable but are not brilliant so this is an area of his game that he will need to work on.
One thing that may make recruiters cautious when looking at Lynch is the fact that he underwent a knee reconstruction last year. He worked very hard in rehab and came back from that very well this year to play for Vic Metro in the Under 18 Championships.
Lynch is an outside chance to be a first round draft pick, however it is more likely that he will be picked up somewhere in the second round.
What are your thoughts on Tom Lynch and where he may end up? Where do you think his best position will be in the AFL? Leave us with your thoughts.

Hopefully Geelong pick him up instead of Tom Swift as they could do with another key backman with Egans foot giving way and unlikely to ever return.
